Most people have a very bad pushing game. Pushing can be very helpful when playing a person with pips, or a blocker, or when you want to return a short serve. On a push, the racket should start a little below the height of the ball. You should hit the ball, using mostly your forearm, quickly off the bounce. To push it long, use little or no wrist. To push it short brush the ball gently. These things apply for both the forehand and the backhand push. If done correctly, the push can be a valuable weapon in your playing arsenal.
