The MDTTC Sunday Elite League Joseph Wang 12/19/2007Many players don’t get a regular chance to play high-level opponents, which is something that is vital to improving. I am fortunate to be able to practice and compete against usually eight or more 2200+ level players on a weekly basis at my club. The Maryland TTC Sunday Elite League is a competitive league organized by brothers Khurram and Qasim Aziz. It attracts many high-level players from around the Maryland area. Players who compete regularly include Han Xiao, Raghu Nadmichettu, Peter Li, Ameresh Sahu, Joseph Wang, John Wetzler, Dave Sakai, Charlie Sun, and Barbara Wei. Everyone is required to pay a $10 participation fee, which is combined and becomes the prize money for the winner (usually Han, unfortunately). It’s rare to see three or more active 2100+ level players at a club, but we are fortunate to have over ten competitive and enthusiastic players. Having regular competition experience is an absolute necessity in table tennis, as it gives you the chance to try out and use the skills that you have honed in practice.
