Take Advantage of your Forehand Joseph Wang 11/9/2005People tend to think that since the court is divided into two halves, the forehand and the backhand each tend one half. This is not necessarily true. In the ideal situation, the forehand should be used for the 3/4’s of the court, with only the backhand side controlling the wide left hand area. This is true because in table tennis, the forehand stroke tends to be the more powerful stroke. It is easier to turn your waist and body counterclockwise with the forehand stroke than clockwise for backhand, and it is easier to smash high lobs and pop-ups with the forehand (unless you’re Kreanga). So take advantage of your forehand when you are playing, and when a shot goes to your middle, take the time to step around and use your forehand rather than block it with your backhand.
