ProfileIt was April 2007: Sonjay Henry was seven years old when she was asked by her mother if she was interested in trying out for the table tennis team that had just started at her elementary school, Confluence Academy. After a few practices, Sonjay showed ability, and Coach Sheri Xu invited Sonjay to the St. Louis Table Tennis Training Center for additional training. Sonjay currently practices ten hours a week and physically works out daily. Her school sponsors the team, which consists of Sonjay Henry and Daniel Holman both eight years old and in third grade. Sonjay enjoys learning and is determined to be the best at whatever she decides to do. When she realized the commitment that table tennis required, she decided to give up playing the piano and the girl scouts to devote the time to the sport and her studies. Sonjay aspires to be a veterinarian or doctor. Her motto is “I can, I must, and I will”. There is no doubt in Sonjay’s mind that she truly has found the sport she enjoys and is committed to being the best. Sonjay won her first trophy (for fourth place) at the 2008 Wasserman Junior Championships in the U-13 Girls event. [Who We Are. Equipment Top Players Use. Playing Tips.] |
